By the City/For the City

For Urban Design Week 2011 New Yorkers are being asked to complete the phrase “Wouldn’t it be great if…” for a crowd-sourced brainstorming of ideas how the urban fabric of New York City can be improved.

There are some interesting submittals in the the list of ideas so far:

Wouldn’t it be great if…

all of Manhattan was a car and truck free zone 

The MTA ran a new line from Brooklyn over the Verrazano Bridge into Staten Island? 

we could go back to Euclidean geometry? 

There was a slide from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to Brooklyn Bridge Park. 

invisible gyroscopes stabilized the city from below.

the city implemented a bike share system.
