How Do You Connect to Your City?

Communication with your city

A recent study from the Pew Internet (of The Pew Research Center) explores how residents in three cities (Philadelphia, PA; Macon, GA; and San Jose, CA) use community information systems and communicate with their cities.

One survey question asked participants “What is the most important source of information about your city?” and gave a choice of six mediums:

  1. newspapers/magazines in print
  2. TV
  3. online
  4. radio
  5. word of mouth
  6. community newsletters

Twenty-two percent (22%) of participants responded that online media is the best source of information about their cities. 32% of the online users across the three cities say they get local news from social networking sites – 19% from blogs and 7% from Twitter.
