What Makes a City?

When is a city a city and the suburbs the suburbs? This poll tries to answer that question and the results so far are interesting. Here are the top responses:

“It’s only a city if it has…”

  1. Lots of people
  2. A business district
  3. Neighborhoods

“It’s only suburbia if it has…”

  1. Cul-de-sacs
  2. Lawns
  3. Freestanding houses

“It’s only rural if it has…”

  1. Farms
  2. Very few people
  3. Livestock

For me it’s only a city when it has lots of people, a business district, and sidewalks.
