Below New York City Streets

NY Underground Diagram

Ever wonder just what’s beneath your feet? National Geographic has an in-depth diagram showing the underground profile of infrastructure beneath New York City.

Generally, it’s broken up into three layers. The first level is up to 30ft below surface and has all utilities – water  power, fiber optic cable, steam, and gas. The second 200ft below has the subway and sewers. And, in the third up to 800ft below (seventy stories) lies a new tunnel for water.
