Might We See These New Traffic Lights in Cities?

Traffic Light Redesigns

Weburbanist.com has recently posted 8 redesigns of a staple of our cities – the traffic light.

Two of my favorites are:

IBM’s lights that control cars which would automatically turn of the engines of cars at stop lights. The benefits? Cuts down on idling and pollution, could be future component of driver-less cars.  The cons? It’s quite Orwellian.

The second is one that projects a laser across the crosswalk or intersection that blocks the way of pedestrians or cars that have the red light.  It should probably be made better with tips from Umbrella Corp.
